The Spurious Hero
Published on June 5, 2008 | In Government and Politics | Rated
The hero label is possibly the most ambiguous term in the English language. Recently I mentioned in a speech to some fellow Republicans that Thomas Edward Lawrence, Dian Fossey, and Paul David Wellstone were my heroes only to have the expressions of those in attendance change from being interested to being indifferent.

Fear and anxiety have been crucial elements in any general's strategy since the dawn of time. The Assyrian empire was reputedly formed through the use of generous amounts of terror and brutality. Oh Those High Energy Prices
Published on December 19, 2006 | In Government and Politics | Rated
In 2003 I wrote an article about high gas prices in North America. Here we are on the cusp of 2007 and the price at the pump is vastly higher. This is not a surprising turn of events when we look at all the reasons for the high gas prices we are paying at the pump and on our heating bills. The usual rational bandied about by people suffering under high prices is the idea that the oil and gas companies themselves are fixing the pricing system.

Afghanistan given up to the warlords
Published on September 18, 2006 | In Government and Politics | Rated
As of the suburbs of Kabul, the Afghan State disappears. One finds nothing any more but lords of the war who control like absolute monarchs, take taxes don't apply the directives of the central government. Even in the capital, one does not know who controls: president Hamid Karzaď and his government? The American ambassador Zalmay Khalizad, this Afghano-American parachuted by Washington? Or the international troops which, with 6,000 men, square all the districts length into broad?
