Like your body needs food to stay fit and fine, your skin needs nourishment too. And if taken good care, you can have a skin to boast of. A good skin is always enviable, but only the one who has it knows what it takes to have one. Spend just a few minutes of your day to maintain a healthy skin that speaks for your entire personality. So if you are keen to have an impressive skin, slip into a skin care routine. But before you follow a routine, know your skin, and the products and the labels that suit your skin. The market has many skin care products, but not all would be effective on your skin type. For instance, a moisturizer would be a nightmare for oily skin and a boon to dry skin. So choose your products carefully. Although your skin care regime would include intake of a lot of water and veggies, you must also treat your skin with the most used skin care products like cleanser, toner, astringent, moisturizer, sunscreen, exfoliating scrub, retinoid, etc. Cleansing is integral to having a great skin. Soap doesn’t remove all the dirt and dust from your skin. A cleanser does. It goes deep down the pores and brings out all the drosses that pile on your skin through the day. Toners are usually meant for oily and combination skins because these have alcohol or acetone to do the extra cleaning and toning. These are, however, not suited to dry or sensitive skins. Astringents are again mostly used on oily skins, where the sebaceous glands are more active to produce an overly sticky skin throughout the day. Astringents check oil control and also inhibit sweating. Moisturizers, as the name suggests, allow dry and wrinkled skins to soothe and get invigorated. They come as creams, lotions or oils and hydrate the skin with the essential nutrients so that it soon comes to life. They are especially indispensable in winter. Sunscreens are one of the must-haves in a skin care routine. For all those who are exposed to the sun for long hours should always apply a sunscreen (minimum SPF +15) to protect the skin from the harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging, wrinkling, skin cancer, etc. Fairer skins need to be extra cautious in this regard. Exfoliating scrubs are generally used to remove the dead cells from the top layer of your skin to give a fresh and lively look. Scrubbing is usually good before applying a mask or face pack. Retinoid is one of the beauty products that are specially designed for aged and fagged skins. Based on topical Vitamin A, these reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and lines. However, retinoid is not a permanent remedy. Therefore, choose the products right and take a disciplined approach to skin care if you want to hear the ‘Wow’.
