If you are looking for something noble to do in your spare time, surf the Internet and recruit for any volunteer work that fits you. You do not have to travel to remote places to do something that gives you satisfaction. Indeed, you can even run your own non-profit organization if you have some extra money or interesting ideas on how to raise money. However, before you indulge in such activities ask yourself why you want to do it. You must be clear in your head whether this activity will make you a better person or just bring you on the cover of a magazine as most famous people do.

If you have a genuine will to do philanthropic activities like charity, you will find many ways to engage yourself. Charity has become quite common these days either because people have become more compassionate or the state no longer provides health and welfare. Charity is given in rich and poor countries after a natural calamity like tsunami or a human tragedy such as civil wars. Age is no bar for volunteers. There are many students of all ages that organize themselves at school to work for a cause.

Charity has its roots more in religious causes than in non-religious. At present there is a wide range where to choose from: helping disabled people, contributions for the maintenance of the environment, helping extinguishing species, AIDS-related charities, sponsored competitions, and so on. Try to take part in charity activities in which you also feel at comfort. It is no sense to help save polar bears if you wear fur clothes, so as to cite an example. Most of the time charity is hard work, and sometimes you feel you will never get any good results.
Anyway, you must stick to your ideals.

Raising money for charity is not very difficult and you could use direct-mail fundraising among many ways. Here you contribute money according to your means. The rich people like Carnegie and Rockefeller of the past and Bill Gates of contemporary times practice endowment by creating foundations that look after the charity work. If you are not in such august company but really want to do charity work all the same, just type a related website address on your computer or call a charity organization on your telephone and you become a donor in no time. An event could also be organized for raising money.

No matter what cause you would like to take part in, you always keep alert because there are some unscrupulous people who uses charity to get advantage of others and really do not care about people's suffering. First, find about the people who are in charge of these institutions, organizations or events, then feel at ease in doing good.

Most important of all, do charity for yourself. Probably you will not end other's peoples pain but somehow you will have contributed to make it less painful and will experience a sensation of relief. Afterwards actions is all that counts. Finally, remember Andrew Carnegie's
words: "The man who dies rich, dies disgraced".
