Rock and Roll which is also known as Rock 'n' Roll is a kind of music that developed in the United States in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Rock ‘n’ Roll rapidly reached to the rest of the world. It later generated a range of sub categories which is now called as 'rock music'. Rock 'n' Roll is based essentially on boogie woogie melody with accentuated beats provided by the snare drum. The instruments used in Rock 'n' Roll are: one electric guitar or two electric guitars, a string bass, an electric bass guitar, and a drum kit. In the initial stage of Rock n Roll, the leading instruments used was piano or saxophone, but later on during 1950s, it was replaces by guitar. At the start of 1947, Rock n Roll was introduced to US audiences in the lyrics of many Rhythm and Blues records. Rock and roll has four beats to a bar and is twelve-bar blues. Rock and roll on the other hand has a better stress on the backbeat than boogie woogie.

Rock and roll started emerging as a melodic style in the United States of America in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It mixed together different trendy musical types of that time. Rock n Roll included the blues, piano-based boogie woogie, and jump blues. The immense reputation and ultimate universal possibility of rock and roll gave it an extraordinary communal blow. Far beyond simply a musical style, rock and roll influenced standard of living, style, outlook, and verbal communication. Adding up to this, rock and roll has helped the reason of the social rights movement for the reason that both African American teens and white American teens liked the style of music. Rock n Roll also gave birth to a lot of other rock styles influenced by it. Progressive, substitution, punk, and heavy metal/rock are presently a few of the genres that jumped forward in the stir of Rock and Roll.

However, Rock n Roll did not get its name until the 1950s, although it could be heard in the country music records and blues records during 1920s and 1930s. Initially Rock n Roll was known as Rockabilly which included the country and blues music blended with jazz and gospel music. "Rockabilly" more often than not defines the type of rock and roll music which was played and recorded in the mid 1950s by white singers such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis, who explicitly copied both the country and R&B family of the music. Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Wild Bill Moore, Trixie Smith and Bill Haley have been famous Rock n Roll stars.
